Caro works on farmer network organizing, technical support and research around agricultural practices and soil health. She is passionate about facilitating farmer-to-farmer learning and facilitating greater communication between farmers, agencies and legislators to advance practical approaches to scaling up soil health practices as a climate mitigation and adaptation strategy. She has 15 years of experience in environmental nonprofit work and 10 years of concurrent experience in organic farming across multiple scales. Prior to coming to AFT, Caro served as the Education Director and Soil Health Projects Manager for the Northeast Organic Farming Association, Massachusetts Chapter, where she and her team served over a hundred farmers per year with soil health and fertility technical assistance and planned and executed over fifty educational events per year, including two annual conferences. Caro served on the Advisory Team for the state-commissioned Massachusetts Healthy Soils Action Plan and is the author of “Farmers Share Experiences and Challenges Adopting Healthy Soils Practices: A Report from the Northeast Organic Farming Association on Two Years of Collaborative Work.” She grows her own fruit and vegetables and raises laying hens on her North Quabbin homestead and is passionate about gardening with native plants. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Bard College and is a SARE Climate Adaptation Fellow. In January 2022, Caro was appointed to the Massachusetts Food Policy Council, filling the Healthy Soils seat created by the 2021 passage of the MA Healthy Soils Bill.
