Scott Bjelland manages communications for AFT’s Midwest region. He grew up on a corn and soybean farm in Grundy County, IL. and has maintained a lifelong interest in farming and ranching. Prior to joining AFT, Scott built a communications program for the newly-formed Turkana Basin Institute, a scientific research institute focusing on prehistory, ecology, geology, and cultural anthropology in East Africa, helping to transform the institute into a world-renowned scientific organization. He graduated with highest honors from San Diego Mesa College’s GIS Sciences program and has performed analyses on the volcanic ash deposits within paleontological collection areas surrounding Kenya’s Lake Turkana, providing new context to five decades of groundbreaking human prehistory research. Scott lives on the edge of Starved Rock State Park in Utica, IL, and serves on the Board of Directors for Grand Bear Lodge.
